Imprisonment rates in Australia have reached a record high and in the last 20 years the nation's prison population has more than doubled. Professor Mirko Bagaric, Dean of Law and Head of Deakin Law School, says Australia is also relatively inefficient in the way it goes about locking people up. He explains that Australia's current imprisonment rate is nearly three times higher than in Scandinavian countries.
