Deakin Law School opens its doors to the public to witness its ground-breaking law clinics
Since 2016, the Deakin Law School has operated two law clinics which serve as learning legal firms for law students.
Staffed by experienced lawyers, the New Ventures Clinic and the Civil and Commercial Legal Clinic take on real clients and real cases (on a pro-bono basis) offering Deakin’s law students the invaluable opportunity to gain real-world, practical skills.
The New Ventures Clinic is dedicated to providing legal assistance to start-ups and entrepreneurs, while the Civil and Commercial Clinic covers cases related to commercial law, family law, immigration law, administrative law and Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) matters.
As part of Law Week (15–21 May), the public will now have the opportunity to visit and find out more, about these clinics at two central Melbourne venues.
Deakin Downtown’s venue will host limited-number tours on Tuesday 16th and Friday 19th May when the law clinics are in session. Interested candidates are encouraged to register for one of these tours by following the register button below. Please note that while case details will be confined due to confidentiality issues, visitors will be able to view the venue and gain genuine insight into how they operate and the types of cases that are covered.
At the Law Week Festival Hub at the CBD’s Federation Square, Deakin Law School will partner with the Victoria Law Foundation to host an information booth on the mornings of Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th May. This provides an informal and friendly venue for the public to find out more about the legal services provided by Deakin Law Clinics and gain first-hand insight into its programs and courses.
