Deakin Law School students performed strongly in this hard-fought international legal competition.

In March, seven of our Law students competed in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. 

For the second year, both the Hong Kong and Vienna legs of the competition were held virtually.

While not able to go on the usual overseas study tour, our team (supported by coach, Rebecca Tisdale) was able to stay together and compete from Waurn Ponds Estate.

After many months of preparation, including practice rounds with our alumni and other Australian and international universities and two pre-Moot competitions, our students put in excellent performances in both legs.

Our Hong Kong speakers – Aleksandar Milenkovic, Ben Awad, Chloe Dijkmans and Georgina Ellis – all represented the University strongly in four competitive rounds and were unlucky to miss out on the finals. 

Our Vienna speakers – Benjamin Roff, Simon Winiarski and Tara Dakin – were fantastic in their general rounds and Deakin advanced to the Round of 64 (out of over 380 teams).

While the team was ultimately eliminated in a hard fought round against the University of Ottawa, their performance in the finals was outstanding.
